Iridescence

by Kaytlin Jenks

Iridescence
They told me I wasn’t good enough
Until I looked just right
I had no worth at all
Until they saw me in the light

They tell me you are not enough
That I waste my time with you
But why should I listen to them
When they hate even themselves too

They tell everyone else
Who their friends are
Who they should be
How to find true beauty

They tell themselves
We are not strong
That we’re not worth it
But too me, you and i perfect

Cause they are not
The ones I’m trying to please
I’m trying to get the girl in the mirror
Too look straight at me

And they can’t make me
Tell me I’m not pretty
Or that no one else
Ever could be

So when you see me
I will smile bright
And I will show you

Your iridescence of light
