Our Minds the Ships by Gary H. Howard

The buildings across the way
promise life and mystery

at night the lights on
their outside landings
and in their windows
connect with me

My thoughts travel to them
over oceans of darkness

The stars glance right off
their windows

Fallen meteors caught
by the plane of my eye

I can hear conversations now
murmuring up through the waves

The voices of aliens on loan
from other worlds

But to remember these
In the context of radio traffic
and mystic absorption

We all share
the secret of
ever-expanding knowledge

And that in dreams
we may glide back and forth

Our minds the ships
for entering harbors
promising rest
